Classroom Expectations
In order to make it the best environment for learning we need to maintain three important principles every day;
Readiness, Responsibility and Respect.
1. Be Ready at the beginning of class.
A. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
B. Needed materials for all classes: textbook, note paper, pencil, blue or red pen, graph paper:
7th grade: also a pencil holder with sturdy compass, sm. protractor, ruler, scissors & erasers
Extended Algebra: also a scientific calculator (TI 30 XS is recommended)
Geometry: also a sturdy compass, sm. protractor, ruler, scissors, erasers & a scientific calculator
2. Be Responsible for your learning.
A. Be attentive listeners
B. Be active participants in discussion: ask questions!
C. Always use good organization skills when designing, completing, correcting, and storing assignments and notes.
D. If you miss a class due to an excused absence, you will be given two additional days to turn in the assignment. Assignments are posted on the class website. Please check the website if you need an assignment in advance or because you have missed.
3. Show Respect to everyone in class. Each class will have new concepts to learn and master. We want to provide the best environment for everyone to succeed. Any behavior that disrupts that learning will not be tolerated.
Grading Process
I grade my math classes in three categories: tests, quizzes, and homework. My philosophy is that math is a much like a sport. The daily homework is just like a practice. It covers main concepts and reviews previous sections, as well as provides some challenge problems to stretch the mind. I will expect to see the students’ logical attempts on each problem and their work clearly shown. The quizzes and tests, however, are graded on accuracy. That is where I can tell if each of the students understands the concepts and can apply them. I am very specific and detailed when I grade those.
